Software Engineer II (Remote) Full-time Job

Job Description

Verisk is seeking a software engineer with at least three years of work experience to join its Weather Solutions division in Lexington, MA.

This small growing team is responsible for developing and maintaining products and services that aid clients in the insurance, restoration, and related industries in effectively responding to natural catastrophe events. The successful candidate will have experience developing software in a team-oriented commercial environment.

The candidate will interact closely with software engineers, scientists, product managers, and other product developers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in math, computer science, engineering, or physical science (physics, atmospheric science, earth science, meteorology, etc.).
• Proficiency (at least 3-years experience) in at least one of the following areas:
  • Scripting: Python, PHP, or JavaScript / node.js; Python preferred.
  • Low-level Development: C, C++, or FORTRAN, C++ preferred.

• Proficiency in Linux / UNIX / shell scripting.
• Proficiency in one or more version control systems such as:
  • Git, preferred
  • Subversion
  • Perforce
  • IBM Rational ClearCase, etc., Git preferred

Desired Qualifications

• Experience in software development of scientific or engineering applications.
• Familiar with all faces of the Software Development Life-Cycle (SDLC).
• Familiarity with Python.
• Familiarity with C/C++, specifically the Standard Template Library and model C++ (C++17 or later) techniques.
• Experience using CI/CD frameworks such as:
  • Gitlab, preferred
  • Jenkins
  • others which include development of software unit, integration and system tests as well as deployment.
• Experience in developing for cloud-based environments, specifically Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Experience working with databases (MySQL or PostgresSQL).
• Experience developing Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
• Familiarity with GIS applications and standards such as ESRI or OGC services
